The need for more need

Morning dew was evaporating during the first sunlight on this peaceful and serene day. A moment so simple, filled with minimalism and yet it was so profound, peaceful. I could feel it breathing calm and serenity into my existence as a deep sigh left my body. “This is what it’s all about isn’t it” I thought to myself.

Next came the realization of the exact opposite and our need for needing. If this felt so serene and peaceful, why was there even a need for more? And still, it seems like we have all found ourselves in that position before. Whether it is needing material things, affection, love, understanding, to be heard, a friend, a shoulder to lean on or whatever else, it’s part of the human condition.

We all have needs and if those needs are not met, we eventually start to question things. Often it is feeding our need that can produce the effect of making us feel better, when in actuality it is only a temporary solution, a bandaid so to say. You’ve heard of retail therapy for example. Perhaps even having a drink to forget. But isn’t reality always catching up with us, soon or later?

Recently I’ve read that needing is a state of the ego. That the ego tries to convince us that we are empty and need something to feel love, success and happiness.

In fact our true self requires nothing to feel complete. So who is this version of ourselves if not our true self that has such a need? Is there a way to recognize it for what it is, what we could change?

“Needing nothing attracts everything.

If you want to become full, let yourself be empty.

If you want to be reborn, let yourself die.

If you want to be given everything, give up everything.”

~Lao Tzu

Who am I, and why I write. I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I am the one, holding on to the silver lining when the skies are gray. I’m a believer that nothing is coincidence, but that everything has purpose. I’ve made my mistakes, don’t we all, but I see them as growing pains and they are a part of who I am today. I have lost myself in order to find myself, and I still do from time to time, but in a good way. I’m a big child who laughs until my belly hurts when life wants to be serious. Career wise: I’ve been there, done that, and I took “The jump” off the hamster wheel in an effort to change my future. I didn’t land all that soft, but I can say that I’m still proud to have found the courage to do it. Coming full circle, I had it all, and yet I was lonely and had nothing. Today I choose to be a collector of moments and I chase memories, instead of the material stuff. Less is more, and the motto is quality over quantity. You’d be amazed at how freeing it can be. I see myself as a free spirit that believes in an unconventional lifestyle. Somehow I go against the grain most of the times, not to rebel, but because it feels right to stay true to my unique and authentic self. It takes courage, and you often stand alone, but if you dare, you soon realize that it is the only way if you don’t want to lose who you are. Just like most, my past wasn’t easy and I come from a life that didn’t always give me the opportunity to be heard. Few related and even fewer cared to take the time. But that’s the past and it’s history, the future hasn’t happened and the “NOW” is truly all we ever have. In the end we all have a story to tell, and we all seek to be understood. We all yearn to be heard and accepted and still life is hard and our path is full of stumbling blocks. If we can see the lessons in adversity we may realize that the toughest moments are often our greatest teachers. There is a reason for the saying that the stars can’t shine without darkness, and it might be darkness that will show you the light.
It took a series of (un)fortunate events, to learn to glow through the pain, to learn how to dance in the rain. I believe in Magic and wonder, and the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. As an empath this old soul often feels a little too much, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Today, I am here to tell my story because I believe that it can help others. It is my hope to bring inspiration and strengths to you, while showing you that it can be done. I know you are out there, and I know you are suffering in silence. I am here to tell you that you are not alone, and your voice is being heard loud and clear. Hang on and be strong, transformation is yours.

  1. Ah dear lady, all those needs have great purpose. That ’empty’ that fills our lives is always asking us to fill it. And as we go through life we are taught the good, the bad and the ugly. Each and every one of them point our hearts to that inner truth that is gently waiting inside us.
If the ‘need’ was not there we would wander aimlessly and not ‘become’ something greater, something wonderful, simply because we found that all those things we thought were needed are then put into the ‘experiences’ of life and we don’t have to go there again…er, except for those times where we forget to turn the repeat off. Mind you, I have to admit our fears really keep those repeat functions in full swing…but we do avoid the fears a lot.
But I tell you this, the day you finally see through all those needs because you have finally broke through the fear, the one thing that keeps us in that full swing of ‘need’, is the day that our hearts finally touch a love and peace that lets it all go. Our needs just no longer matter because we have found what was beneath it all, that ‘need’ to be loved, wanted, happy and all those other things that our fears stir within us. When we finally see that our fear was us blocking our love, our belief in ourselves, all because the fear is our inability to believe in who and what we are. That negativity (fear), of ourselves, no matter what it is built on, will not allow us to give us that one thing we have missed and ‘needed’ all our lives…acceptance of who we are. The fear is a condition we place on ourselves, and in understanding it that condition is finally removed and we can then love us ‘unconditionally’ and it is the most beautiful thing we will all touch in this entire journey.
It takes a long time, but that too has great purpose. After enduring a life of ‘need’, when that inner ‘need’ is finally met, the release, the let go, the absolute appreciation of what we have achieved in its true understanding, will allow us to see its true purpose and understand it is all done with a love like no other, for us ❤️ 🙏🏽 🦋

      1. Thank you kind sir, all of my blog is about this very thing. Up on the top menu bar is a basis of that journey but most of my main posts are about the many ways we do ‘the journey’ in life. The posts are about our lifetime of fear we create in our childhood from unintending parents who haven’t dealt with their fears yet and ‘pass it on’. Then we spend our lives going through relationships and having those fears ‘nudged’ so that we keep facing them, even though we try to avoid them at all costs. But it isn’t until we understand them that it all opens like a flower, a most beautiful thing is found within this scary, horrible thing that we face every day. And the freedom…its like being released from a lifetime of servitude (ours, well we are the only ones that keep us there), and the ‘let go’ is beyond words. You begin to smile, not with your lips, but deep inside with all that you are…because you know ‘you’ have done it. Experienced, endured, understood and appreciated something that you will barely be able to put into words…it is that profound.
May you find that inner spot, it is waiting for us all 😀 ❤️ 🙏🏽 🦋

    1. Once again so profound words and such insight it makes me smile big to read your understanding, soaking in your wisdom. I totally agree and everything, every phase, every experience has purpose and a meaning at that time. If we’d always come from a hindsight perspective, we’d never understand the purpose and the lesson. It is wonderful coming to that understanding, feeling it’s bliss and unconditional love. 💙🙏🏼🦋

      1. It is a beautiful thing to eventually see that we have to trip and stumble to become that understanding. Without it we are…well…I don’t know how to describe it, but I can feel we actually wouldn’t exist. This place is designed to understand that love that we are, there isn’t a single thing that we do (and not even the so called bad bits), that doesn’t show us both sides and in doing so we naturally become that beauty. Mmmm, now you’ve really got me thinking, if it is all in balance, that ‘other side’ can only be one thing? Or is it just a pot on a stove somewhere to begin again, creating something new from what went before? 😀 ❤️ 🙏🏽 🦋 😂 🤣

  2. Great post with food for thoughts, Rhapsody 😀
We do have elementary needs like food and water to survive. More than that isn’t essential, but nice to have. Like a place to live and thrive might help us to feel much better.
As humans, we are very good to replace one feeling with another and often we don’t see through, why we feel crave for so much else in life.
Much love and huge hugs for you ❤

  3. The journey of growth through all my needs has been a slow and steady one. I still know of my utmost needs and it is beautiful I have them I think, the work through them is beautiful too. Beautiful post and Lao Tzu quoted is so profound.
