Some areas in the Sierra close to my home are getting a late start this year. Salmon Lake is still partially covered in ice and snow while the lodge is just now beginning to thaw out from it’s winter slumber. During the summer month the lodge can be reached per water taxi or a trail skirting the right side of the lake. Currently the trail is still covered in snow and it is said that some places such as this and other campgrounds might not open at all this season. I can’t remember this ever happening before and this is a good indication of how much extra of that fluffy white stuff Father Winter brought last season.
